Theories
Dyer proposes that; “A star is an image not a real person that is constructed (as any other aspect of fiction is) out of a range of materials (eg advertising, magazines etc as well as films [music])”

Dyer's argument is supported by two iconic artists in the music industry; Madonna and Britney Spears. As you can see, when Madonna first debuted her image was innocent which fitted the concept of a teenage girl with the album ‘Ray Of Light’, however, once she had passed the young teenage years her image had been reconstructed in to a seductive young woman with her album ‘Confessions on a dance floor’.

Similarly, with Britney Spears when she debuted as a solo artist, her image was young, mischievous and youthful with her album ‘Hit me baby one more time’, then her whole image of youth was overtaken by her new album ‘I’m a slave for you’ which was promiscuous and provocative.
Industry and Audience
The stars in the music industries are modelled into how they believe their audience wants to perceive them. They give people what they want to see such as the rise of teenage singers after the extremely successful teen drama/musical ‘Glee’.
