Music channels used to be a type of television programming which focuses predominantly on playing music videos from bands, usually on dedicated television channels broadcasting on satellite or cable.

Music TVs may host their own shows charts, award prizes. However in recent years this has changed due to the entertainment factor.

Music Channels such a VIVA and MTV now play music videos but also have variety shows and films. This may be due to the joint companies which are not music channels. (Some of this information is from Wikipedia)
