Costume
For the male actor 'Viet', I went for two styles; one being suave an the other being more casual. My inspiration for Viet to wear a suit was from two korean male artists as both Viet and these artists are from a oriental ethinic.
I looked towards their sense of style to represent my actor in a more formal way. However, I chose not to make Viet wear a shirt as it would take away the element of youth. To keep this I decided to make Viet wear a chain as they are often associated with teenagers.
The artist I looked at before had also worn a more urban style of clothing as their target audience is similar to my target audience which is 13 - 18+. This helped me decide on what style of clothing Viet should be in.
Snapback hats have become extremely popular with younger people so I used a simple black snap back so that it does not take away too much attention away from the female artist.
I made both Ellie and Viet wear casual but bright clothing as the track is of Pop genre and is linked with bright colours.
Once again i was influenced by artist in the KPOP industry as they explore both formal and urban clothing which I believe would be successful in my Music video.
I wanted Ellie to be represented as glamorous and classy. My influential styles of clothing came from RnB/Pop singer Shontelle as I thought the neutral colour of the dress allows the artist to look elegant but sexy at the same time which is why I had chosen to use a off-shoulder orange-caramel coloured dress.
The fur coat was to show wealth as wealth is linked with the glamour and fame.
I found that Lucy Liu was great at being both elegant and voyeuristic. This was through her choice of colour of clothing and her simple make-up. I used the simple make-up on Ellie and it worked well as it did not take away too much attention away from her clothing.
For my ancillary task I used a more urban style for Ellie because i found that these were extremely popular on social networking sites such as 'Tumblr' which is popular with young people. The key piece of clothing is the hat which gives an edge to the other styles that Ellie wears.
Another key element was a bit of skin on show as it displays that she is young woman and it is common for young women to show skin in the music industry as it becomes part of their character.
