In short, the ‘stars’ are products being sold to the public. They become trend setters which give them a commercial appeal.
One very good example is Cheryl Cole. She may not be as talented a singer like Adele for instance but her image sells and has higher ratings, hence her advertising endorsements and participations in reality shows like X-Factor.
Star image is such an important part of music marketing as it helps promote the sale figures of the artist.


Another example is Susan Boyle – how she had to be relooked to make her more attractive in the music market.

Stars have a big impact on fashion trends as people may copy their hairstyle or clothing. A recent example is Rihanna’s red hair which became a popular hair colour after her music video ‘Only Girl’.
Stars play a very important part in influencing the younger generation. An example is Lady Gaga’s controversial style of voyeurism and fetish outfits have influenced fashion on the high street.
